Subject: Policies, templates and legal issues for NCITS review.
NCITS has asked the Secretariat to distribute to NCITS for review the following documents:

1. The current ANSI patent policy, under which NCITS operates

2. The templates used by NCITS in its ANSI standards. One template is used when a patent holder has been identified and agrees to the terms of the ANSI patent policy. The other template is used when there were no responses to the calls.

3. A proposed revision of the text of the "Call for Patents" the Secretariat issues at the commencement of a project, during the compliance review and during each public review. This text was prepared for the Secretariat by ITI counsel. PPC recommended approval of it to NCITS. The motion to approve it failed at the July meeting.

4. The paper prepared by Melissa Landau Steinman of Venable for NCITS. Ms. Steinman is one of ITI's legal representatives and has documented for NCITS the information she presented at the NCITS TC Symposium held on October 17, 2000. The TC officers at the symposium asked for the information to be posted to the NCITS website.
