NCITS Announces the Approval of a Project Proposal
Revision of the Fortran standard (ISO 1539-1:1997)

Washington D.C., April 1998 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) announces approval of this new project being developed within Technical Committee, J3, Programming Language Fortran. The reference number for this project is 966-I.

The scope of this draft standard is the development and maintenance of ISO/IEC Fortran programming language standards. The unofficial name of the revised language is Fortran 2000.

The next meeting of J3 is May 25-29, 1998 in Terre Haute, IN. All organizations and individuals who are materially or directly affected are invited to participate.
