Welcome to the INCITS Newsletter!

One of the recurring themes the INCITS Officers and Secretariat have heard recently is a request for more communications from the Executive Board (EB) concerning what is going on across the whole INCITS Community.  This newsletter is an experiment in response to those requests to provide that communications channel.  If successful, I expect we will tune the format, timing and content to best meets the needs of the whole Community.  As such, it is important that you provide us with feedback and ideas so this we can maximize its usefulness.

This issue contains a number of topics of interest.  Several of them should appear in most, if not all, issues such as an update from our two standing EB committees: the Procedures Board Committee and the Finance Board Committee.  In addition, until it has become second nature to all of us, status on and usage suggestions about the INCITS Committee Management System (ICMS) should appear regularly.

At the annual INCITS Symposium help in Orlando in April, the EB noted and began work on a number of issues raised by the technical committees.  The following week, the officer team spent three days going through those issues and others and started developing responses and solutions to them.  I am happy to report that those issues and the officer's suggested responses were discussed in depth at the July EB meeting.  The EB endorsed many of the suggested actions and adjust a few others.  These responses include:

-       PBC work on RD-1 and RD-2 changes to address some of these issues;

-       INCITS Secretariat work on finding low cost conferencing tools, to improve
   TC/TG officer awareness of certain EB activities, and to make certain templates

        and forms more available;

-       INCITS Secretariat discussion with KAVI to address ICMS concerns such

        accessibility.

We intend to continue to work these issues while staying in communications with those who identified them.  This does not mean every issue can be resolved in the manner preferred but it does mean we will provide a well-reasoned response.

Don't forget to mark your calendars now for the 2010 INCITS Symposium on April 19-20, 2010.  The location has not yet been confirmed.

Again, welcome to this new communications channel and feel free to provide your feedback and suggestions to me or to Jennifer Garner.
