NCITS Announces the Public Comment Period for the Reaffirmation of X3.214:1992, 130-mm Optical Disk Cartridge Using Sampled Servo and 4/15 Modulation

Washington D.C., November 1997 - NCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) is announcing the public comment period for X3.214:1992. The public review extends from November 7, 1997 to January 6, 1998.

This standard specifies the characteristics of 130-mm optical disk cartridges (ODC) of the type providing for information to be written once and read many times.

ANSI X3.214:1992 specifies
- definitions of essential concepts,
- the environment in which the characteristics shall be tested,
- the environments in which the cartridge shall be operated and stored,
- the mechanical, physical, and dimensional characteristics of the case and
of the optical disk,
- the optical characteristics and the recording characteristics for recording
the information once and for reading it many times. so as to provide
physical interchangeability between date processing systems.

In accordance with ANSI procedures and NCITS, which require a five- year review of approved standards, OMC recommends this standard recommends this standard be reissued, without change.
